While avoiding more demanding work, I was sifting through my email and opened the newsletter from the International Storytelling Center (ISC). ISC had established a fund in the name of Merle Davis, the late wife and the number one listener of Donald Davis. This fund is to assist one audience member cover the cost of attending the National Storytelling Festival.

My first thought was, ‘I know who deserves this! The guy who always listens to me and to every other storyteller in Florida and beyond, John Byram.

I filled out the application and wrote an essay. Read it to John, who of course listened, smiled and nodded. I sent it off and forgot about it, until July when John got the call.

We are going to National Storytelling Festival!
